Damen Delivers Tug to Bremenports

Bremenports, the management company for the twin German ports of Bremen and Bremenhaven, took delivery of its first Damen-built vessel – a Stan Tug (Stu) 1606. Built to a proven design and delivered on time, the tug, named Albatros, will be mobilized primarily in assisting maintenance dredging works at the ports. The 16.76 meter Stu 1606 will assist Bremenports’ own bucket dredger in maintenance dredging works at the two ports in northern Germany.

The 70-metric-ton bollard pull azimuth stern drive tug will be temporarily deployed by Tug Malta Ltd., a full subsidiary of the Genovese towage company. Seaspovill Orders Second Damen Fast Ferry

South Korean operator Seaspovill signed its second contract for a Fast Ferry with the Netherlands-based shipbuilder Damen Shipyards Group. The Fast Ferry 4212 - to be named SEA STAR 5 - will operate between Mookho and Ulleung-Do at the East-coast of South Korea. The ferry is a high-speed catamaran passenger ferry. As Damen keeps this successful type of ferry on stock the vessel has a short delivery time.

Trojan Marinex announced that Damen Shipyards have selected the Trojan Marinex Ballast Water Treatment (BWT) system for a fleet of Platform Supply Vessels (PSVs) it is building for Atlantic Towing Limited – a Canadian-owned marine transportation company. “It’s been an exciting year for us,” said Marv DeVries, president, Trojan Technologies. “Our entire product suite achieved IMO Type Approval in March, AMS acceptance in August, and we are on course for U.S. Coast Guard Type Approval.
Damen Launches First PSV 3300 for PROMAR

Offshore ship manager PROMAR recently marked a milestone with the sideways launch into the Danube of the first of its two Damen PSV 3300s on order. On delivery in February 2015, the Swiss company believes the 80-metre Mamola Reliance will give them a valuable competitive edge in the West African oil and gas market. On September 4, Damen Shipyards Galati launched the PSV 3300 Mamola Reliance at an official ceremony at the yard in Romania.

By combining Damen’s capabilities in shipbuilding, research and services, the group now offers a cost-effective alternative to retrofitting fixed BWT systems. Damen has developed the InvaSave Mobile Ballast Water Discharge Technology which enables port-based ballast water management. The mobile solution means ballast water only needs treating at the point of discharge, in contrast to fixed onboard BWT installations that also need to treat ballast water at intake.

Offshore Wind Services’ (OWS) latest Damen vessel – the Fast Crew Supplier 2008 Offshore Waddenzee - was officially named at Damen Oranjewerf Amsterdam, on August 22. The FCS 2008 is the second Damen vessel ordered this year by the Dutch company, which is a specialist in the provision of crew transfer vessels to the offshore wind industry. In January, OWS became the first company to order the next generation Damen Twin Axe Fast Crew Supplier 2610.
Ecuador Coastguard Orders Damen Patrol Boats

Damen announced it has recently signed a contract with AstillerosNavalesEcuatorianos (Astinave) to construct two Damen Stan Patrols (Spa) 5009 for the Ecuadorian Coastguard. The Ecuadorian shipyard will build both vessels locally with Damen Technical Cooperation, which is Damen’s method of ‘building on site’. Damen Technical Cooperation (DTC) will supply Astinave with prefabricated kits to build both vessels.

The Dutch Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, Lilianne Ploumen, and a Dutch Trade Delegation visited Damen Shipyards Cape Town (DSCT) on Tuesday, July 8, 2014. The goal was to get an impression of the way South African and Dutch companies and entrepreneurs are working together. In addition, the newly qualified pupils from DSCT’s in-house Apprentice Training Center received their certificates from the minister.

Atlantic Towing (USA) has selected newly-designed, ice-strengthened PSV 5000 vessels from Damen Shipyards Group to meet its 10-year offshore support contract with ExxonMobil Canada Properties and Hibernia Management and Development Company Ltd. (HMDC). The vessels will operate in the sub-arctic waters of the Hibernia and Hebron oil fields, off Newfoundland and Labrador. ATL will take delivery of four PSV 5000 vessels, one of which will be equipped for inspection, repair and maintenance duties.

Dutch company Offshore Wind Services (OWS), specialists in the provision of crew transfer vessels to the offshore wind industry have ordered a Damen FCS 2008. This is the company’s second vessel ordered from Damen this year. Damen Shipyard Den Helder in the Netherlands will meet the specific requirements of the client. This includes outfitting the vessel with a second generator set and offshore crane. She will also be painted in the company’s colors. The vessel is to be named Offshore Waddenzee.
