Great Lakes Limestone Trade Down 18% in July
Shipments of limestone on the Great Lakes totaled 3,348,040 tons in July, a decrease of 18 percent compared to a year ago, according to the Lakes Carriers’ Association (LCA). July’s loadings were also 14 percent below the month’s five-year average. Loadings out of U.S. quarries totaled 2.6 million tons, a decrease of 26 percent compared to a year ago., while shipments from Canadian quarries totaled 760,000 tons, an increase of 35 percent compared to a year ago, LCA said.

Crowley Wins LNG Supply Deal in Puerto Rico
Crowley Maritime Corp. said its liquefied natural gas (LNG) services group has been awarded a multi-year contract to supply containerized LNG from the U.S. mainland to Molinos de Puerto Rico, the Caribbean arm of Ardent Mills LLC, supplier of flour, wheat, corn and rice-based food ingredients. The contract was executed through Crowley’s subsidiary Carib Energy (USA) LLC, and includes both the supply and transportation of LNG.
Protea Developing Heavy Lift Cargo Cranes
Poland based Protea, supplier of offshore and marine lifting and mechanical handling equipment including cranes, winches and launch and recovery systems, is expanding its offering to also deliver heavy lift cargo cranes. Protea engineers are currently developing an all new, all electric cargo crane constructed from ultra high strength steel and will be available in a range of sizes from 60t to 500t (or even higher upon client request).
