Fairmount Marine said it had delivered rig ENSCO 5004 in Malta at the end of a voyage that began offshore Rio de Janeiro. Rig ENSCO 5004 is a 1982 built 94.7 meters long and 70.4 meters wide semi-submersible drilling rig. The towage of rig ENSCO 5004 from Rio de Janeiro to Malta took about 5,782 nautical miles and during the voyage speeds well over seven knots were reached. The FSRU Toscana, the world’s first-ever floating Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) platform, has begun commercial operations off the coast of Italy, on schedule. However, before the 288-meter container ship, turned floating LNG storage platform, could begin operation as a regasification plant, it had to negotiate a perilous journey, being towed from Drydock World in Dubai to the Italian Coast, via the Gulf of Aden and the Suez Canal, protected by Drum Cussac security specialists.

EU, Seychelles Conduct Counter-Piracy Exercise
On Friday 10 January, the Seychelles Coast Guard, Air Force and Police Force, together with the EU Naval Force Somalia - Operation Atalanta and EUCAP Nestor, carried out a counter-piracy exercise in the Seychelles. The exercise involved the boarding of a suspected pirate skiff that had attacked a local fishing boat. The 'pirates' were disarmed and taken into custody, along with evidence from the skiff. The Seychelles Coast Guard then handed over the pirates and evidence to the Police Force.

Offshore Crewman Medevaced after Severing Foot
A U.S. Coast Guard aircrew medevaced a 27-year-old man from an offshore supply vessel five miles off Louisiana, Thursday. The captain of the offshore supply vessel Miss Aubrey Ann contacted watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston at approximately 4 p.m., reporting that a crewmember severed his foot after getting it caught in a line. An Air Station Houston aircrew aboard an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter medevaced the man to the Lake Charles Memorial Hospital, in stable condition.
Nordic American Tankers CEO: Market is Improving
Nordic American Tankers Limited (NAT) issued a letter to shareholders from the company’s chairman and CEO, Herbjorn Hansson, noting improved market conditions for NAT’s Suezmax tankers. In a December 10, 2013 letter to shareholders, Hansson highlighted improved conditions in the Suezmax spot tanker market, and in his latest letter said the development has continued into 2014. “We do not predict spot tanker rates,” Hansson said.
$642M Terminal Puerto Bahía Under Development
Pacific Infrastructure, a subsidiary of Canadian oil company Pacific Rubiales, is developing the multipurpose terminal Puerto Bahia in the South of Cartagena Bay on Colombia’s Caribbean coast. In September 2012 Pacific Infrastructure awarded the construction of the multipurpose terminal to a consortium formed by Isolux Corsán (Spain), Tradeco (Mexico) and Tampa Tanks (U.S.). The construction of Puerto Bahía is scheduled to be completed during the first half of 2015.

Crew of Detained Ship Headed Home
The Apostleship of the Sea (AoS) welcomes the repatriation of the stranded crew of the Donald Duckling, a ship detained in the River Tyne for the past seven weeks. The seafarers’ welfare organization has been providing practical support to the crew of the vessel since it was arrested on November 12 last year. Apart from the ship’s captain and its chief engineer, all the crew - including 11 Filipino crewmembers who flew home on the afternoon of January 9 - have now gone back home.
