'Ava Pearl,' a new catamaran operated by Rhode Island Fast Ferry, is fitted with fuel-efficient MTU Series 4000 engines. The 34-meter passenger vessel, designed by Incat Crowther and built by Gladding-Hearn Shipbuilding, makes three daily round-trips between North Kingstown, R.I., and Oak Bluffs on Martha’s Vineyard, Mass., a one-way distance of 52 miles. In the first two months of operation, the 150-passenger Ava Pearl logged more than 18,700 sea-miles and the fuel savings have added up.

A new 300 mt marine lift for Yank Marine is being installed at its Tuckahoe, NJ shipyard. This new 300 metric ton marine lift was transported from Marine Travelift in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin on ten trucks and is currently being erected on site. It was purchased using a $961,676.00 grant from the Maritime Administration under the Assistance to Small Shipyards Grant Program, and will replace Yank Marine Inc.’s existing 200 metric ton Marine Travelift. Seasonal Decline in Water Levels Means Great Lakes Dredging Crisis Will Only Worsen. The water levels on the Great Lakes have begun their seasonal decline, so the impacts of the dredging crisis will become even more pronounced in the fourth quarter. Even before the Lakes began their dip, the largest ships were forfeiting more than 6,200 tons of cargo each trip. Each inch that the Lakes decline in the weeks and months ahead will slash another 50 to 270 tons from the already deflated totals.
