Port of Tauranga: Three New Services
Three new weekly container services are calling at Port of Tauranga, all from long term customers of the port. Pacific International Lines (PIL) - a Singapore based, family-owned company - have announced a new service coming out of the West Coast of the United States, calling Melbourne and Sydney in Australia and then Tauranga, before heading back to Brisbane, Taiwan and China. This new service will begin calling Tauranga in July.
Færgen Takes Delivery of Austal's Largest Catamaran
Austal’s largest catamaran built to date, the 113 metre “Leonora Christina”, was recently handed over to her owners, marking completion of construction of the high speed vehicle-passenger ferry at Austal’s Henderson shipyard. “Leonora Christina” was constructed for Danish company Færgen (formerly Nordic Ferry Services) and is due to depart Austal’s Henderson shipyard for Denmark this week, where it will be operated by Bornholmer Færgen, a subsidiary of Færgen.
Technip, BASF Sign Umbrella Agreement

Cargotec is supplying two MacGregor offshore deck cranes for installation on an offshore converter platform, BorWin beta, which will feed 800MW of renewable energy generated by two offshore windfarms into the German electricity grid. Contract Awarded for Construction of Valemon Deck
Statoil is to choose Samsung Heavy Industries for construction of the topsides for the Valemon platform. The contract is worth an estimated NOK 2.3 billion. The award has taken place in wide-ranging international competition among pre-qualified suppliers. “We’ve awarded the assignment to build the Valemon topsides to Samsung Heavy Industries,” says Jon Arnt Jacobsen, chief procurement officer in Statoil. “We have good experience with this supplier which also has a good track record in HSE.
Aberdeen Harbour Completesl Quay Refurbishment
Aberdeen Harbour Board has announced the completion of a £4 million refurbishment project at Commercial Quay East while welcoming the arrival of a new £1 million workboat. Nautilus Minerals Completes Drilling Program
Nautilus Minerals has completed its 2010/11 seafloor drilling program, with the vessel, REM Etive, having demobilized in Singapore on May 16, 2011. During the drilling program in the Bismarck Sea of Papua New Guinea, Nautilus completed a 99 hole diamond drilling project, for a total of 1475 metres. Drilling was focused within the area of the Mining Lease (ML154) recently granted to Nautilus, which contains the Solwara 1 deposit and the Solwara 5 seafloor massive sulphide (SMS) discovery.
