On Tuesday, May 24, 2011, the Interlake Steamship Company vessel M/V Hon. James L. Oberstar will be christened at Duluth, Minn. Mr. Oberstar and his wife Jean, the Sponsor of the ship, will be on hand for the christening. Due to Homeland Security regulations, only invited guests will be allowed access to the vessel for tours beginning at 9 am, followed by a press conference at 9:30 am and the christening ceremony at 10:30 am.

Thailand’s Marsun Shipbuilder Grows Their Crewboat
Thailand’s Marsun Co. Ltd. has built a number of in-house designed 118-ft crewboats. Earlier this year they launched a 131-ft version. Delivered in February the Uniexpress 18 went into service in the Gulf of Thailand for owner Uniwise Offshore Ltd. transporting up to 70 workers to and from oil rigs. In addition to personel, the boat can carry up to 50 tons of cargo on the 120 square-meter after deck. Tankage is provided for 50,000 liters of fuel and 20,000 liters of water.

Alewijnse Commissions Three Pilot Station Vessels
Alewijnse Noord BV in Drachten recently the largest order in the history of the company scored. It involves the construction of electrical systems on board three new Pilot Station Vessels for the pilotage. The vessels are built by Barkmeijer Shipyards. Barkmeijer Shipyards Stroobos building commissioned by the Pilotage three new ships. The 'pilot station vessels' function offshore as accommodation for the crew of the pilot boats. The vessels have a length of more than 80 meters.
Navios Maritime Partners to Purchase Two Vessels
Navios Maritime Partners L.P. (NYSE: NMM), an owner and operator of dry cargo vessels, announced today that it has agreed to purchase from Navios Maritime Holdings Inc. ("Navios Holdings") (NYSE:NM) the Navios Orbiter, a 2004-built Panamax vessel of 76,602 dwt, and the Navios Luz, a 2010-built Capesize vessel of 179,144 dwt, for a total consideration of $130.0 million. The vessel is chartered out at $38,052 (net) per day, for approximately 3 years, until April 2014.
