Damen Shiprepair & Conversion (DSC) has taken over the management of the Curaçao Droogdok Maatschappij (CDM) as of February 1, 2017, following an agreement between the Government of Curaçao and Damen Shipyards Group in September 2016. The location will now continue its activities under the name of Damen Shiprepair Curaçao (DSCu). With this step in Curaçao, part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Damen expands its ship repair activities across the Trans-Atlantic Ocean.

The City of Amsterdam Fire Department has taken delivery of its new firefighting vessel: the Jan van der Heyde IV. C-Job Naval Architects provided the concept design for the 17.6-meter vessel. Damen Shipyards Hardinxveld executed detailed design, engineering and vessel construction. The canals of Amsterdam are more than a world-famous tourist attraction. Damen Shipyards Group has introduced its new line of Trailing Suction Hopper Dredgers (TSHD), comprising of the Marine Aggregate Dredger (MAD) 4000 and 5600 vessels. Designed in collaboration with Maritime Design and Engineering Services (MD&ES), the MAD 4000 and 5600 are geared for mining sand and gravel offshore. For offshore aggregate operations, the new vessels will be able to work in North Sea conditions up to depths of -60 meters.

Edison Chouest to Build 13 Damen Tugs

Marine transportation provider and the United States’ largest operator of OSVs, Edison Chouest Offshore (ECO), has teamed up with Damen to build 13 heavy duty mooring assistance and escort tugs. The vessels will be built in the U.S. using ECO’s network of five shipyards with support from Damen under its Technical Cooperation program. The new tugs will be deployed on two major maritime projects for which ECO has recently won contracts.

Damen Green Solutions has signed a letter of intent with Norwegian company TeamTec to supply and service the AVITALISTM ballast water treatment system. The system combines filtration and a proven, eco-friendly chemical treatment solution optimized for medium-sized to large vessels. The system is highly effective in water of any salinity, turbidity or temperature. The intention is to advance to a full partnership by the end of 2016.

Just down river from Damen Song Cam Shipyard, SAL Heavy Lift’s MV Svenja departed from Halong Bay loaded with 14 vessels. The shipment consists primarily of built-for-stock vessels – Stan Pontoons and Tugs – which will be available for immediate purchase on arrival in Rotterdam in October. MV Svenja’s voyage began in Shanghai on August 30th when she started loading eight Stan Pontoons that were built at Damen Yichang Shipyard, China.
