Japan Authorizes ABS as Recognized Organization
ABS was granted authorization by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism to serve as a Recognized Organization of the State of Japan. This authorization allows ABS to provide statutory certification services to Japanese-flagged vessels on behalf of the government. “This authorization strengthens our global coverage and allows vessel owners and operators greater operational flexibility,” said Christopher J. Wiernicki, President and CEO, ABS.

Beijer Electronics' 7" QTERM-A7 & 12" QTERM-A12 interface terminals now American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) certified for marine applications. With the recent ABS classification, US-based Beijer Electronic's, QTERM-A7 and QTERM-A12 terminals can now be used in many challenging marine applications including ballast water treatment and propulsion. The US Coast Guard and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have compiled a list of frequently asked questions (FAQs) and associated responses on the North American Emissions Control Area (ECA). Also included at the end of the document is a list of questions which are currently under review by the USCG/EPA. The USCG will update the FAQs on a monthly basis (or sooner).
