SCIGRIP Adhesive Awarded ABS Certification
In keeping with its commitment to deliver high strength bonding solutions into the most demanding marine and offshore applications, SCIGRIP, a global supplier of smart adhesives, has been awarded the ABS (American Bureau of Shipping) certification for its SG230 HV (high viscosity) range of structural products. SCIGRIP submitted a comprehensive range of data around SG230 HV, therefore allowing ABS to determine if the product met their rigorous specification criteria.

ABS Wins Petronas FLNG Classification Contract
ABS, a provider of classification and technical services to the global offshore industry, has been awarded the classification contract from Petronas, Malaysia's national oil company, for the company's second floating LNG facility (PFLNG 2). The vessel will be built at the Samsung Heavy Industries yard in Geoje, Korea. "This is a very significant award for us," said ABS Chairman and CEO Christopher J. Wiernicki.

In 2013 the ABS-classed fleet expanded to 205.6 million gross tons (gt), a growth rate of more than 6 percent year-on-year. ABS became only the second classification society to surpass the 200 million gt mark. ABS also maintained a leading position in the global orderbook closing out the year with 38.8 million gt contracted to class with ABS, 22 percent of all vessels on order.

ABS Approves Design for GTTNA’s LNG Bunker Barge
GTT North America (GTTNA), the Houston-based subsidiary of French engineering and technology company Gaztransport & Technigaz SA (GTT), received approval in principle from ABS for the design of a 2,200 cu.m. liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunker barge. The design incorporates GTT’s membrane Cargo Containment System (CCS), which is used in 70% of the global LNG carrier fleet and nearly 90% of LNG carrier projects on order.

Houston-based GTT North America (GTTNA), U.S. subsidiary of French engineering and technology company Gaztransport & Technigaz SA (GTT), has received approval in principle (AIP) from ABS for the design of a 2,200 cubic meter liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunker barge. The distinctive design incorporates GTT’s proven membrane Cargo Containment System (CCS), which is utilized in 70% of the global LNG carrier fleet and nearly 90% of LNG carrier projects on order.
ABS Report Addresses LNG Bunkering Regulation

ABS to Release LNG Bunkering Report at CMA 2014
Classification society ABS inform that on Tuesday, 18 March 2014, ABS Vice President for Global Gas Solution Patrick Janssens will present an ABS report entitled Bunkering of Liquefied Natural-Gas Fueled Marine Vessels in North America at CMA’s Shipping 2014. The report, developed by ABS and ABS Group, provides a framework for addressing regulatory requirements related to LNG bunkering across North America.
ABS to Class Two US-built OCVs
Offshore and maritime classification society ABS has been selected by Edison Chouest Offshore and Island Offshore through the company Island Ventures II LLC to class two next-generation offshore construction vessels (OCVs). The ULSTEIN SX165 design vessels, ordered through Island Ventures II LLC, will be built at Ulstein Verft in Norway and Edison Chouest's LaShip yard in Houma, Louisiana, in the U.S. The OCVs will be 28 m wide and 145.7 m long with accommodations for 200 people.
BSEE's Salerno Visits Arctic Challenger, USCG, ABS Leaders
On February 20 and 21, 2014 Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) Director Brian Salerno and BSEE Alaska Region Director Mark Fesmire traveled to Bellingham, Wash. to meet with senior leaders from the U.S. Coast Guard and the American Bureau of Shipping and see first-hand Shell's containment system aboard the Arctic Challenger. Director Salerno and Alaska Region Director Fesmire also visited with Coast Guard representatives at the Coast Guard's District headquarters in Seattle.

MTU Series 4000 Engines ABS NVR Certified
As the first engines in its power class the MTU Series 4000 was recently awarded Naval Vessel Rules (NVR) certification by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS). The new ABS NVR certification, a requirement for the U.S. Coast Guard’s Fast Response Cutter (FRC) program, was awarded after 1,500 hours of testing of the 20V 4000 M73 that included extensive run times at 110% of the engine’s rated power in a variety of extreme environmental conditions.
ABS to Class its First Japan-Flagged Vessel
Anchor Handling Tug Supply vessel will be built to ABS class for Offshore Japan Corporation by Japan Marine United Corporation. ABS has been selected by Offshore Japan Corporation (OJC) to class its newly-ordered Anchor Handling Tug Supply (AHTS) vessel, the first Japan-flag ship built to ABS class.
