The Guardian reported that six people may have perished after a fishing boat flying the Saint Helena flag sank near the Falkland Island coast. It said that 14 of the 27 crew believed to be on board had been rescued. The report said that seven other crew members were still missing.

Maersk said on Friday that a fire had broken out on one of their chartered vessels, sailing from Mundra off the west coast of India, to Colombo in Sri Lanka. Local media reported that the fire was caused by a short-circuit, which resulted in explosions, and that a Filipino seaman died.
