US-flag Great Lakes Shipping below October Average
U.S.-flag Great Lakes freighters (lakers) moved 9.5 million tons of cargo in October, up 7.1 percent compared to a year ago, but slightly behind the month’s long-term, the Lake Carriers’ Association (LCA) reported. Iron ore cargos for steelmaking totaled 4.8 million tons, an increase of 9.4 percent compared to a year ago, LCA said. Coal loadings rose almost 9 percent to 1.4 million tons, and limestone cargos increased 5.3 percent to 2.7 million tons.

New Curved Jaw Flange Couplings Launched
Guardian Couplings has launched the new curved jaw flange (JF) K45 Series shaft-to-shaft coupling with a bolt-on disc for use with brake calipers. The new torsionally flexible coupling is designed for industrial applications including various types of cranes and hoists, winches, and mining conveyors, reclaimers and draglines. Five models are available with bore sizes from 0.87 in. to 4.92 in. diameter and braking torque ratings from 8,310 in.lbs. to 63,720 in.lbs.
Engines Selected for CMA CGM’s LNG Mega Ships
WinGD X-DF engines will power CMA CGM’s record setting containerships. French shipping line CMA CGM has chosen WinGD’s largest, 92 cm bore, dual-fuel low-speed engine to power its series of groundbreaking box ships – presently the largest on order globally, and the first ultra large container vessels with capable of running on liquefied natural gas (LNG). Norway's Arctic Oil Plan Violates Constitution, Lawsuit Says
Norway's plan for Arctic oil exploration is unconstitutional because it violates the right to a healthy environment, a lawyer for Greenpeace and the Nature and Youth environmental group told an Oslo court on Tuesday. Kleven, Lürssen Partner to Build Explorer Vessel
Norwegian shipbuilder Kleven said it has signed a contract with German based luxury yacht designer and builder Lürssen to collaborate for the delivery of a 100-meter-long exploration vessel newbuild for a non-disclosed customer. Kleven said the vessel will be built, partly outfitted and technically finalized at Kleven Verft in Norway, before final outfitting at Lürssen’s Blohm+Voss facility in Hamburg, Germany.
