COSCO Shipyards, Like Most Others, Found 2013 Challenging

China shipbuilder and repairer COSCO group in its financial report for year ending 31, December 2013, informs that operating conditions for most of 2013 continued to be difficult. The Groupās turnover was $3.5 billion, lower by 6% from $3.7 billion for the year before. Excerpts from chairman Mr. "Gross profit amounted to $321 million, from $485 million in 2012. Net profit attributable to shareholders was $30.6 million, a decline of 71%. Diluted earnings per share was 1.4 cents.
Ingalls Shipbuilding Get Seventh USCG Legend-class Contract

Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) informs that its Ingalls Shipbuilding division has received a $497 million fixed-price, incentive-fee contract from the U.S. Coast Guard to build a seventh Legend-class National Security Cutter (WMSL 756). "We have a hot production line with this class of ships, and we continue to get betterāa tangible result demonstrating the value of serial production," said Ingalls NSC Program Manager Jim French.

Morgan City, Louisiana, shipbuilder and ship repairer Conrad Industries, has announced its fourth quarter and twelve months 2013 financial result, adding that it has acquired new business during the first quarter of 2014 totalling $67.3 million. For the quarter ended December 31, 2013, Conrad had net income of $10.1 million and earnings per diluted share of $1.70 compared to net income of $8.0 million and earnings per diluted share of $1.33 during the fourth quarter of 2012.

Amongst the latest listing of US Department of Defense, Navy, contracts, General Dynamics Bath Iron Works, Bath, Maine, is being awarded a $24,374,445 modification to previously awarded fixed-price incentive contract (N00024-11-C-2306) to exercise an option for DDG 1000 class services. This contract modification provides additional class services associated with the detail design and construction of DDG 1000 class ships.

Singapore based marine service provider for the offshore oil and gas industry, Swissco Holdings Limited, informs it has entered into a definitive Sale and Purchase Agreement for the S$285.0 million acquisition of Scott and English Energy Pte. Ltd. which will enable Swissco to move into the offshore rig chartering business. Swissco adds that the SPA was signed with Double Dragon Energy Holdings Limited for the acquisition of the entire issued and paid-up share capital in Scott and English.

Designers Robert Allan inform that Keppel Singmarine Brasil Ltda. (KSMB), of Navegantes, Brazil have recently completed the construction of the 24m LOA 'SMIT Pareci', the second of a series of six Robert Allan designed RAmparts 2500 tugs, for SMIT Rebocadores do Brasil (Rebras), of Rio de Janeiro. The designers explain that the RAmparts Class tugs are a series of proven, standardized Z-drive tug designs.

Eastern Shipbuilding inform that Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company, LLC (GLDD) has placed orders for construction of a 433ā Trailing Suction Hopper Dredge Barge and a 158ā-4ā 15,600 BHP, CPP Tug. Named the GLDD302 (ESG Hull 252), the ATB Tug detailed engineering is being performed by Shipās Architect, Inc. and the GLDD151 (ESG Hull 253), the ATB Dredge Barge by Bay Engineering, Inc. Both are based upon an Ocean Tug & Barge Engineering, Inc. ATB design.

The Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) issued a notice to cruise passengers affected by the Houston ship channel oil spill stating that several cruise voyages have been altered or rescheduled. Royal Caribbean Internationalās Navigator of the Seas seven-night Western Caribbean March 23 sailing was originally cancelled because of an oil spill in Houston harbor, but has decided to go ahead with a shortened four-night cruise.
