ASRY Signs Solas Agreement
ASRY, a ship and rig repair yard in the Arabian Gulf, is expanding its range of in-yard services by signing a Service Agreement with Solas Marine Services Group. The Agreement will allow Solas to build a 2,000-square-meter Service Center for Life Boats, Life Rafts and Fire Fighting & Life Saving Appliances in ASRY, which will not only expand ASRY’s services portfolio, but also bring new business opportunities to the Kingdom itself.

SSA Selects Elliot Bay Ferry Design
Elliott Bay Design Group (EBDG), a naval architecture and marine engineering firm with offices in Seattle, New Orleans and Ketchikan, has been awarded a multiple-phase project to design a new freight and passenger ferry for the Massachusetts-based Woods Hole, Martha's Vineyard & Nantucket Steamship Authority (SSA). “We were looking to replace our oldest vessel, the M/V Governor, with a more versatile vessel by the spring of 2016," stated Wayne C. Willard to Build Ukrainian Navy Patrol Boats
Willard Marine, a builder of composite and aluminum boats, has received an order to supply the Ukrainian navy with four aluminum patrol boats, with an option for a fifth. Under the contract, issued by the U.S. Navy Foreign Military Sales (FMS) office, Willard Marine is supplying two SEA FORCE 11-meter and two SEA FORCE seven-meter aluminum patrol boats, each with an open cockpit configuration. An additional seven-meter patrol boat will be supplied upon request.

New KNRM Vessel Performs Well at Sea Trials
Damen said a number of trials were conducted last week for the new search and rescue vessel for the KNRM (Royal Netherlands Sea Rescue Institution). Leading up to the official delivery ceremony scheduled for April 2014, the builder reported good results for both the capsizing test as the comparison with the current Arie Visser Class (another all-weather SAR from the KRNM). After completion, the KNRM will deploy the SAR NH1816 with a permanent captain and an on-call crew.

Hydrex, Wärtsilä Partner for Subsea Repair
Last month a Hydrex diver/technician team carried out underwater stern tube seal repairs on a 110-meter offshore supply vessel in Bunbury, Australia. The rope guard covering the stern tube seal assembly was missing and the seal box had come loose after a mooring rope got tangled around the assembly. An emergency on-site repair was necessary. Hydrex therefore mobilized a diver/technician team to the vessel’s location and was able to carry out the entire operation on-site and underwater.
Ocean Safety Certified for Gas Cylinder Inspection
Independent safety supplier in the U.K., Ocean Safety, received the EC Certificate of Authorization from Lloyds Register, allowing the company to carry out all in-house certifications of gas cylinders. In accordance with the Transportable Pressure Equipment Directive 2010/35EU, Ocean Safety is now authorized to pressure test many types of cylinders including composite, welded steel, seamless steel and aluminum gas.
