EBDG Designs Tank Barge for Maxum Petroleum
The Seattle office of Elliott Bay Design Group (EBDG) today announced the completion of a new 15,000-barrel tank barge design package for Maxum Petroleum, Inc. Designed to balance performance with fabrication cost, the new 15,000-barrel tank barge features a state-of-the-art tankerman's office, recessed machinery space aft for improved visibility, a dimensionally identical cargo tank, plus bulkhead stiffener and plate seams arranged to maximize material usage and simplify fabrication.
DSNS Cuts Steel for Indonesian Navy Frigate
In June 2012, the Ministry of Defense of Indonesia and Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding (DSNS) signed the contract for the first SIGMA 10514 Perusak Kawal Rudal (PKR) Frigate. In accordance with the agreed planning for the construction of this frigate, the Steel Cutting Ceremony took place simultaneously on 15 January 2014 at PT PAL (Persero) Shipyard in Surabaya (Indonesia) and DSNS in Vlissingen (the Netherlands). DSNS will build two modules and subsequently ship them to the yard in Surabaya.

Doyle Votes for Additional Information from G6 Parties
Citing consumer interests, U.S.-flag international fleet, small businesses, suppliers and third parties such as terminals, vendors and bunker operators, Doyle submits additional questions to the G6 parties. Federal Maritime Commissioner William P. Doyle voted to approve a request for additional information from the filing parties to the G6 Alliance Agreement. IMB: Somali Pirate Clampdown Caused Piracy Decline
Piracy at sea has reached its lowest levels in six years, with 264 attacks recorded worldwide in 2013, a 40% drop since Somali piracy peaked in 2011, the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) International Maritime Bureau (IMB) said. Just 15 incidents were reported off Somalia in 2013, down from 75 in 2012, and 237 in 2011. IMB’s annual global piracy report shows more than 300 people were taken hostage at sea last year and 21 were injured, nearly all with guns or knives.

Almarin Provides Complete Navaids Package for Puerto Brisa
Almarin, a Spanish manufacturer of AtoN, has completed the design and turn‐key supply of aids to navigation for Puerto Brisa (La Guajira, Colombia). The company provided 14 buoys: twelve lateral marks, one safe water and one special mark. All buoys, from its ‘Guía’ range, were provided with self contained lights equipped with satellite monitoring. The G2200T model was used for the channel dredged at 17m and the G2400T was selected for its additional volume in the open water marks.
