Statoil Awarded Top Company Honors
Corporate Knights has ranked Statoil number four, and the number-one energy company, on the Global 100 list of the world’s most sustainable corporations. The announcement was made at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland last week. The Canadian media company made its list from an initial group of 4,000 publicly traded companies. These were first narrowed down to 350 companies based on financial performance, sustainability disclosure practices, and other criteria.

Bahri Drybulk Receives New 82,000 DWT Ship
The National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia (Bahri) subsidiary Bahri Dry Bulk (owned 60% by Bahri and 40% by Arasco) has taken delivery of the vessel 'Bahri Bulk' from shipbuilders in Japan. Bahri inform that this is the third vessel delivered from the 5 vessels that were contracted from leading Japanese shipyards in 2012. The financial impact of the delivered vessel will materialize during the first quarter of 2014G.
China Warships Patrol Far Off Southern Island
China Navy's Nanhai Fleet flotilla is patrolling the Zengmu Reef, the southernmost part [of what it considers to be] the country's territory, and those on board the 3 ships took a ceremonial oath to safeguard sovereignty, reports Xinhua. The Zengmu Reef is a key maritime traffic juncture as well as a strategic spot. The Chinese navy patrols the area, about 50 miles off the coast of Malaysia on a regular basis.
ASL Marine Buys Next-Door Indonesian Shipyard
Headquartered in Singapore, ASL own four shipyards in Singapore, Indonesia (Batam) and China (Guangdong). They inform they have conditionally agreed to purchase for US$20-million a shipyard belonging to Miclyn Express Offshore Limited (MEO), located adjacent to its own yard in Batam, Indonesia. The Batam shipyard is situated in a free trade zone with industrial areas designated specifically for shipyards with infrastructure such as roads, telecommunications, utilities and supporting services.
