K-Line Add Four to PCC Newbuild Orders
Japan's Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (K Line) says it has ordered four additional new next- generation pure car carrier (PCC) vessels from Japan Marine United Corporationon, on top of its recent identical 4-vessel shipbuilding contract placed with Shin Kurushima Dockyard Co. In total, each company will be building four new "K" Line next generation car carriers, respectively, with delivery starting in 2015 and continuing through the first quarter of 2017.
Siemens Wins U.S. Inaugural Commercial Offshore Windfarm Project
Siemens and Cape Wind have signed a major contract for the construction of the United States' first utility-scale offshore wind farm situated off the Northeast coast, 20 kilometers offshore of Nantucket, at Horseshoe Shoal in the Nantucket Sound. Installation and commissioning is expected for 2016. Siemens says it will supply Cape Wind with its industry-leading 3.6-megawatt offshore wind turbines, an offshore Electric Service Platform (ESP) and a long-term service agreement.
China Shipyard Launches Hi-Speed Ferry for Damen
China's Afai Southern Shipyard says it has launched a 4010 high-speed catamaran ferry for the Damen Group of The Netherlands. The catamaran ferry has an aluminum structure with a length of 39.9m, beam of 10.7m, design draft of 1.72m, and design speed of 35 knots. Afai Southern shipyard says that the launch indicates it has achieved another construction milestone by building this international high-end ferry.
China Speeds Up Move to Mixed-Ownership Economy
China will promote a mixed-ownership economy by diversifying the shareholding structure of state-owned enterprises (SOE) reports the Chinese 'Shipping Gazette', citing the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission. The Commission informed the nation it will speed up the transformation of SOEs, especially parent companies, into joint-stock firms. The pay system will also be reformed with a focus on using performance as the basis for compensation for SOE managers.
