American NW Ports Set Marine Emissions Goals
The ports of Seattle, Tacoma and Metro Vancouver, Canada, aim to cut diesel emissions by 75 percent per ton of cargo moved by 2015 and 80 percent by 2020, from a 2005 baseline. Factoring in projected cargo growth, this will result in overall reductions of 70 percent by 2015 and 75 percent by 2020. The ports also set a goal to reduce greenhouse gases by 10 percent by 2015 and 15 percent by 2020 per ton of cargo moved.
Livestock Carrier Delivered by China Shipyard

Ben-My-Chree Orders SOLASOLV Screens
U.K. based Solar Solve Marine received an order to supply 12 SOLASOLV class approved roller screens to the Ben-My-Chree Ro-Pax ferry. The vessel is owned and operated by Isle of Man Steam Packet Company and operates from Douglas to Heysham. Built by van der Giessen de Nord shipyard in the Netherlands at the cost of £24 million, the ship entered into service in 1998 and can carry 636 passengers and up to 200 vehicles.
Former NCIS Director Named Advisor at Ridge Global

Coast Guard Receive New Response Boat in N.C.
The crew of Coast Guard Station Hobucken, N.C., received a 45-foot Response Boat - Medium Thursday, the 144th of 170 RB-Ms being delivered to the service. The RB-M replaces the 41-foot Utility Boat, which has been the Coast Guard's workhorse of the fleet for more than 25 years. Willard Contracted for 42 U.S. Army SOLAS Rescue Boats
Willard Marine, a 56-year-old builder of composite and aluminum boats, has received a contract to supply 42 rescue boats for U.S. Army supply ships and landing craft. Under the contract, awarded by the U.S. Army Contracting Command in Warren, Michigan, Willard Marine will deliver 16-ft. rigid-hull inflatable boats (RIBs) for eight Logistic Support Vessels (LSV) and 34 Landing Craft Utility (LCU) vessels. The boats will be built at the company’s plant in Southern California.
Sea Star Line, TOTE Leadership Changes
Effective January 1, 2014, Sea Star Line (SSL) President Peter Keller will become Executive Vice President of Sea Star Line’s parent company, TOTE, Inc. In this new capacity he will assist in the oversight of both TOTE Shipholdings and the TOTE Maritime Division, which includes Sea Star Line and Totem Ocean Trailer Express (Totem Ocean). Keller joined TOTE in February of 2012 as President of Sea Star Line and has been leading the conversion of the company’s fleet to Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).
ITIC: Broker Follow-up Vital in Fluctuating Markets
ITIC says that the failure of shipbrokers to follow up on time-sensitive messages can have serious financial consequences, particularly in fluctuating spot markets. In its latest Claims Review, ITIC cites the case of a ship fixed for a trip time charter for two voyages, with an option for a third. The option was to be declared by the charterers on completion of loading for the second voyage. The fixture had been negotiated through brokers in two different offices of the same company.
