Fifth Damen PSV for World Wide Supply
Damen Shipyards Group is set to deliver the fifth Platform Supply Vessel in a series of six to World Wide Supply of Norway. World Opal is a Damen PSV 3300 CD. The first ship, World Diamond, was delivered in July and the last in the series World Sapphire is due to be delivered mid-December. Delivery of the new design involved extensive CAD/CAM modeling by Damen Shipyards itself and model testing at Maritime Research Institute Netherlands (MARIN).
U.K Coastguard Helps with Flood Rescue Efforts
The U.K. Coastguards has been working through the night as parts of the U.K. have been hit by one of the largest tidal surges in decades. Maritime Rescue Coordination Centres (MRCCs) at Stornoway, Aberdeen, Humber, Holyhead, Liverpool, Thames, Dover and Falmouth have been managing the rescue efforts. Nearly 50 Coastguard Rescue Teams have been sent to some of the worst affected areas. Coastguards from elsewhere in the country were also sent to help.

Private maritime security service company Protection Vessels International (PVI), part of Protection Group International, announced that it has achieved accreditation to deploy armed guards on German flagged vessels. Applicable from December 1, 2013, the updated German regulations are more stringent than any other existing standard and go beyond ISO 28000/28007 certification, which is currently being piloted.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) has received an order for a very large liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carrier able to navigate the Panama Canal from Astomos Energy Corp. The vessel is to feature MHI's world-class energy efficiency and outstanding versatility enabling it to flexibly accommodate the requirements of major LPG terminals. Completion and delivery are scheduled for the second half of 2015.
