New Submarine and SWATH Capabilities for HydroComp NavCad
HydroComp NavCad is a software tool for the prediction and analysis of vessel speed and power performance. It also provides for the selection of suitable propulsion system components – engines, gears and propellers. A recent development effort has been undertaken to provide new submarine and SWATH performance analysis in NavCad. This includes new definitions for submerged hull form geometry, and the prediction of resistance and hull-propulsor interaction coefficients.

Crowley Maritime Corporation’s liner services group has added 537 new refrigerated (reefer) cargo containers to its fleet of equipment in an accentuated effort to serve the growing needs of its produce customers in Central America, Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. All of the units received are 40-foot high cubes built to Crowley’s personalized standards. Marin’s New Simulator Bridges Engineering and Operations
On Tuesday, December 10, Peter Noble (President of SNAME) and Robert Hanraads (the Nautical Institute) jointly opened the new bridge simulator at the Marin offices in Houston. They were asked by Marin for this event to illustrate that this simulator was built as a bridge between engineering and operations. Watched by representatives of oil majors, engineering companies and offshore contractors, Robert Hanraads then safely performed the first offloading operation on the simulator.

The new ferry will operate between Cuxhaven and the island of Helgoland in Germany. This route will take it close to the Lower Saxon Wadden Sea national park, an ecologically sensitive UNESCO World Heritage listed area in the south-eastern part of the North Sea.
