Italy: Refugee Boat Sinking, 100s Feared Lost
At least 130 African migrants have died and many more are missing after a boat carrying them to Europe sank off the southern Italian island of Lampedusa. A total of 103 bodies have been recovered and more have been found inside the wreck, reported BBC News citing local coast guards. Passengers reportedly threw themselves into the sea when a fire broke out on board. More than 150 of the migrants have been rescued. Most of those on board were from Eritrea and Somalia.

ADPC Ink Long-term EMAL Export Agreement
Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC) has signed a ten year agreement with Emirates Aluminium (EMAL), to handle the export logistics of finished aluminium products from EMAL’s production site. The volume of exported metal will grow gradually from 600,000 metric tonnes in 2014 to 750,000 in 2015 onwards. The signed agreement covers all of the handling operations and transport logistics for the finished products from EMAL’s site to the container freight station and export terminal at Khalifa Port.

The Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, has announced acceptance of the fifth of the Canadian Coast Guard’s new Hero Class vessels, the 'CCGS G. The CCGS G. Peddle S.C. is a Mid-Shore Patrol Vessel that will be based in Dartmouth, 
Nova Scotia. It was constructed in Halifax, Nova Scotia, by Irving Shipbuilding Inc. A formal naming and dedication ceremony will follow. The Hero-Class vessels are 43 metres in length with a displacement of 257 tonnes and a top speed of 25 knots.
Somali Pirates Jailed by Seychelles Court
11 pirates have been convicted in the Seychelles Supreme Court of committing acts of piracy and operating a pirate vessel between 7 – 11 May 2012. Their sentences ranged from 18 months to 16 years. The pirates had been apprehended by the Royal Netherlands Navy frigate, HNLMS Van Amstel, on 11 May 2012, after the warship’s Lynx helicopter sighted a suspicious fishing dhow towing 2 skiffs, 400 nautical miles off the Somali coast.
