New Orleans Vessel Traffic Returns to Normal
Vessel traffic on the Mississippi River returned to normal Sunday as the remnants of Tropical Storm Karen dissipated. U.S. Coast Guard officials rescinded all restrictions on the River and area waterways about midnight, allowing vessels and mariners to resume normal operations. The Carnival Conquest arrived at the Port’s Erato Street Cruise Terminal about noon, followed by the Carnival Elation berthing at the Julia Street Cruise Terminal a half hour later.

Fairmount Marine’s multipurpose vessel Fairmount Fuji has assisted Italian contractor Saipem with her operations offshore Congo. Fairmount Fuji has performed several cargo runs between Siapem’s Boscongo yard in Pointe Noire and the offshore Congo moored drilling ship Siapem 1000. Fairmount Fuji also took care of the transport of Saipem crew. Eni presented the twelfth edition of World Oil and Gas Review, the annual statistical review of the world oil and gas market and the refining system. Oil and gas reserves continue to rise, confirming that operators are able to replace reserves put into production and to find new ones: a comparison of 1995 reserves with those of 2012 reveals an increase of almost 40%. In the past year, however, despite a 2% increase in oil reserves, those for gas remained largely flat (+0.4%).

Bluefin Acquires SeeByte
Bluefin Robotics, a provider of Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs), announced that it has acquired SeeByte, Ltd., a provider of autonomous platform software that enhances the user experience and the capabilities of underwater sensors, vehicles and systems. SeeByte, headquartered in Edinburgh, Scotland, will operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bluefin. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
