Helmsman Mixed Port With Starboard & Ferry Grounded
The owners, Marine Atlantic, give an update on the grounding of the ferry MV Blue Puttees in Port aux Basques harbour. Immediately following the incident, Marine Atlantic initiated an internal investigation to determine the cause and work towards preventing a similar incident in the future. Two external agencies, namely the Transportation Safety Board (TSB) and RCMP, also initiated investigations. It has been concluded that human error was the cause of the incident.
Marine Broker Wins P&I Scholarship Internship
Johann von Rantzau has been selected as this year's Robin Travis Scholar following final interviews of candidates in Hamburg, Germany. The scholarship provides a three-month paid internship with transport liability specialist Thomas Miller for executives employed in the shipping, transport or marine insurance sectors in Germany. UK Royal Fleet Auxiliary support ship 'Wave Knight' has helped seize an estimated £6.5 million worth of drugs from traffickers in the Caribbean. In a multi-agency operation involving UK and US assets, the fishing vessel Miss Tiffany was detected and one of Wave Knight ’s boats was launched to investigate. Soon after arrival, and upon hailing the vessel, the fishing boat's crew were seen jettisoning a number of suspect packages overboard.
