STX Finland to Close Rauma Shipyard
STX Finland, which has seen a deterioration of its shipbuilding base for many years, today announced its latest plan to stem the flow of red ink: a phase out of the Rauma shipyard. Ship Takes Shape at Nordic Yards
At Nordic Yards a 390-ton section of a new wind turbine service jack-up vessel was laid down in the Wismar dock today as scheduled, marking a milestone in the building of the 80 x 32 m ship. The vessel was ordered last year by the Danish company DBB Jack-Up Services for the purpose of servicing offshore wind farms. "We are delighted to be witnessing this major step in the construction of our offshore vessel together with Nordic Yards today", said Thorsten Jalk, CEO at DBB Jack-Up Services.
Almarin Provides Navigational Aids for BIMEP
Almarin, manufacturers of Aids to Navigation (AtoN), has supplied the maritime beaconing for Biscay Marine Energy Platform (BIMEP) in Bizkaia, Spain. Almarin supplied seven G3000TL buoys with 11m3 hull volume, sufficient capacity to handle the sturdy moorings in 90m depth. Equipped with self contained beacons, radar reflectors and AIS systems (providing real time data for ships equipped with ECDIS), these buoys ensure that the perimeter of the BIMEP area is well marked.

Ingalls Starts Construction of Destroyer DDG 114
Huntington Ingalls Industries has started fabrication of the U.S. Navy's next Aegis guided missile destroyer, 'Ralph Johnson' (DDG 114). The ship will be the 30th Arleigh Burke-class destroyer built at the company's Ingalls Shipbuilding division. The start-of-fabrication milestone signifies that 100 tons of steel have been cut for DDG 114. Ingalls uses state-of-the-art robotic cutting machines to ensure the steel is cut and fabricated to exact Navy specifications.
