Favourable Offshore European Wind May Change Direction
Europe adds 1,045 MW of offshore wind in the first half of 2013, but there are challenges ahead according to the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA). 277 new offshore wind turbines, totalling 1,045 megawatts (MW), were fully grid connected in Europe during the first six months of 2013. This is double compared to the same period in 2012 when 523.2 MW were installed. In addition, 268 foundations were installed and 254 turbines erected, all during the first 181 days of the year.

Navy’s First Mobile Landing Platform Departs San Diego
USNS Montford Point (MLP 1) departs San Diego for Naval Station Everett, Wash. Montford Point is the Navy’s first mobile landing platform, delivered to the Navy in San Diego May 14 and expected to be fully operational in fiscal year 2015. The ship, crewed by 33 contract mariners working for a company under charter to Military Sealift Command, will perform system tests during the voyage to its temporary layberth.

Offshore Wind Farm Support Vessels Order for Havyard
ESVAGT will operate the vessels, due for delivery by Havyard Ship Technology in Dec. 2014 & March 2015, to be used in connection with maintenance of offshore windmill installations. ESVAGT is a new customer for Havyard and it is also the first time Havyard will design vessels for service and maintenance of offshore windmills. The basis for this design, however, is taken from technology that Havyard says it has developed and delivered to the offshore oil industry through time.
Jack-up 'Maersk Convincer' Malaysia Contract Extended
Petronas Carigali, the Exploration and Production subsidiary of Malaysia’s national oil company, has exercised its contractual right to extend the contract for the jack-up Maersk Convincer by one year. Consequently, the rig will be on contract with Petronas until mid-November 2014. As part of the drilling campaign offshore Malaysia the rig is expected to do High-Pressure-High-Temperature drilling and Under-Balanced drilling for which the rig is ideally suited.
Edison Chouest Offshore Ordering New Vessels, Expanding Terminals
The Edison Chouest Offshore (ECO) global family of companies, plans to enlarge its fleet and expand its terminal facilities in support of its customer base. The Chouest newbuild order book contains over 40 vessels, a vast majority to be constructed at its four U.S.-affiliate shipyards: North American Shipbuilding (Larose, LA), LaShip (Houma, LA), Gulf Ship (Gulfport, MS) and Tampa Ship (Tampa, FL), as well as its Brazilian shipyard, Navship.
