Somali Pirates Now Protect Illegal Fishing Vessels, UN Reports
The maritime industry has recently seen a decrease in Somali piracy, but many pirates have turned to a new criminal activity: protecting illegal fishing boats off the Somali coast. Instead of carrying out acts of traditional piracy, the criminals are seeking new, more profitable ways to generate illegal revenue, guarding illegal fishing vessels and participating in arms, drugs and human trafficking, according to a report recently published by the UN.
Two New Ice-class LNG Carriers for Dynagas
Dynagas, the liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipping arm of the George Prokopiou shipping enterprises, has taken delivery of Arctic Aurora, the second of two ice-class membrane LNG tankers, during a ceremony at Hyundai Heavy Industry (HHI) Ulsan shipyard, Korea. The first, Yenisei River, was delivered yesterday. The 155,000 cbm (cubic meters) ships are fitted with GTT Mk III containment systems. Propulsion for the ships is provided by a duel fuel diesel generator engine system.
Tekmar Announces Plans For O&G Return
Cable protection company for the offshore wind industry Tekmar Energy announced its plans to return to the oil and gas market whilst maintaining its leading position in offshore renewables. China Shipyard Naming of Vroon Livestock Carriers
Specilaist livestock carriers 'MV Galloway Express' and 'MV Ganado Express' have been named at the COSCO Shipyard in Guandong, China. Rolls-Royce Marine H1 2013 Strong Revenue Increase
Revenue increased by 16%, reflecting OE volume from improvement in the Offshore sector, services growth in Offshore and Naval and foreign exchange benefits. However profit decreased by 8% due to adverse revenue mix, pricing pressures and warranty charges, partially offset by cost reduction and favourable foreign exchange. The order book increased 10% including an order intake of £1.7bn (£2.2bn in H1 2012).
