New Mechanical Shaft Seal from Thordon
Thordon Bearings Inc., a company in grease and oil-free bearing solutions announced the introduction of TG100, a new water lubricated mechanical face seal for 100-305 mm (4-12”) shaft diameters specifically designed for operation in abrasive waters, but can operate in clean water as well. The TG100 uses Silicon Carbide seal faces designed to last the life of the vessel and operate in both clean and abrasive-laden waters.
Raytheon Anschütz Launches New Gyro Compass
With the new Horizon MF the German navigation system manufacturer Raytheon Anschütz launches a new generation gyro compass which can be operated free of maintenance. Horizon MF is Raytheon Anschütz’ new strap down compass system which uses Hemispherical Resonator Gyros (HRG) to measure angular rates for heading calculation. In a strapped-down system angular rate gyros and accelerometers are not gimballed but mounted stationary in a housing.
Harvey Gulf Options for Sixth TY Offshore Dual Fuel Vessel
TY Offshore announced that Harvey Gulf International Marine has ordered the construction of an additional TY Offshore built 302’ x 64’ Dual Fuel Offshore Supply Vessel, bringing its total order to six. The order, and subsequent delivery, positions Harvey Gulf as the largest owner/operator of clean burning LNG Offshore Support Vessels in the world. TY Offshore is building all six vessels at their Gulfport, Mississippi shipyard.
Oceanex Launches Massive Canadian Con/Ro Vessel
A con/ro ship, said to be Canada’s largest, was launched in Flensburg, Germany on Friday, May 31. Representatives from Oceanex Inc., were in attendance for the naming ceremony and launch of its newly constructed, custom-designed 210 meter con/ro vessel. Following the launch, the vessel was hauled to the fitting out quay, where the final details including the bridge and accommodations block will be installed and the vessel readied for delivery in October. Palfinger Sells Two Cranes to Kirby
With the support of Donovan Marine, Palfinger Marine crane dealer for the Gulf of Mexico, two Palfinger PK 11001 MC foldable knuckle cranes were delivered to Signal International in Orange, Texas to be installed on two newly constructed 126ft ATB tugs for Kirby Ocean Transport Company. The cranes will be used for launching a small work skiff into the water and general maintenance as well as store stores handling.
