The Rt Hon Edward Davey MP, Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, joined GDF SUEZ E&P U.K. in Aberdeen yesterday to witness the signing of another major contract with the U.K. supply chain for the Cygnus project. The deal with Burntisland Fabrication Ltd (BiFab) to construct the accommodation platform of the GDF SUEZ operated Cygnus development is one of several partnerships helping to deliver more investment and new jobs for U.K. companies.

Balance Point Control Ltd. (BPC), a Superior Energy Services, Inc. company, has developed the Concentric Snubbing Unit- 160 (CSU – 160) rig assist snubbing unit. According to BPC their new CSU-160 is the first fully remote-operated snubbing unit on the market. Furthermore, BPC built a complete Zone-1 electric-driven hydraulic powerpack with four separate drive banks to set a new safety standard in the industry as this minimizes personnel exposure to pressurized hydraulic lines.

Raytheon to unveil at upcoming CANSEC 2013 Expo an onboard navigation simulator that allows operators to train with the system they will use at sea. Marinette Marine Corporation a Fincantieri Company contracted to build an additional 4 Response Boats – Medium (RB-Ms) by the U.S. Coast Guard. With an approximate value of $9,400,000, the new boats are part of a multi-year, Coast Guard contract requiring the construction and delivery of up to 250 RB-Ms at a total contract value of up to $600 million. Delivery of the 4 boats is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2014. This brings the total number of boats under Contract to 170.
