Harvey Gulf Invests $540 Million in LNG Vessels
Chief Executive Officer of Harvey Gulf International Marine, Shane Guidry announced the execution of three agreements for vessels totaling $540 million. These purchases will raise the total capital expenditures of Harvey Gulf to $1.7 billion since August of 2008. The first agreement is between Harvey Gulf International Marine and Eastern Shipbuilding Group for the construction of two STXCV 340’ x 73’ x 29.5’ Heavy Lift Construction Vessels.

Crowley Closes $1 Billion Newbuild Program with Liberty Christening
Eleven years after the launch of its first Articulated Tug-Barge (ATB), Crowley Maritime Corporation christened its 17th ATB, the Liberty/750-3, yesterday at the VT Halter Marine Shipyard in Pascagoula, Miss. The tugboat and 330,000-barrel petroleum tank barge are the final vessels to be built in a more than $1 Billion, decade-long ATB construction program undertaken by Crowley to expand the company’s U.S.-flag petroleum services fleet.

Lifeboat hooks can be lethal, and their design is out of date and unsuitable to meet modern demands, according to serving seafarers whose views have been gathered by InterManager. Following a series of incidents and fatalities involving lifeboat hooks, InterManager, the international trade association for the ship management industry, has gathered comments from seafarers of various ranks in an online discussion forum.
