InterManager Appoints New Team

InterManager, the international trade association for in-house and third party ship managers, has today appointed Gerardo Borromeo as its new President with immediate effect. Mr Borromeo, who was elected unopposed [October 11] InterManager AGM in Copenhagen, succeeds Alastair Evitt, Managing Director of Meridian Marine Management, who has completed his two-year term of office. The AGM also voted in four new Vice Presidents to focus on specific areas of InterManager business.

A NEWLY launched anti-piracy system has been given the thumbs up by maritime security and operations consultants Flag Victor. The WatchStander system was originally developed for the US naval fleet but has been modified and adapted for use by commercial vessels, cruise ships and yachts. The fully automated system detects and identifies pirates before launching a series of non-lethal counter measures.

Glasgow-based marine safety consultancy, Safety at Sea Limited, has completed its first port project, for the Melones Oil Terminal, (MOT) in Panama. MOT is a 2.1million barrel capacity tank farm facility due to open before the end of 2012 on the Islas Melones, a greenfield development around eight nautical miles from the Pacific end of the Panama Canal. Safety at Sea provided a Marine Safety Assessment covering marine procedures and operational limits around the newly constructed terminal.

A Ghana court judge rejected plea to release the 'ARA Libertad' training ship, detained through complaint by a US hedge fund creditor. The sail training ship has been detained with more than 200 hundred crew members on board since 2, October 2012 in a port close to the West African port of Accra, reports Bernama. The ARA Libertad is a three-masted tall ship that stopped at Tema while training hundreds of Argentine navy cadets.

Norwegian Car Carriers ASA announce a new time charter contract for their 'NOCC Caspian'. The company's 100% owned car carrier NOCC Caspian's charter is for a duration of about 12 months with commencement in early December 2012. The concluded time charter rate is higher than the rate on the current charter and will generate an EBITDA of about NOK 13.5 million during the twelve months charter period.

At the STX shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France, two commemorative coins are welded to 'MSC Preziosa’s' mast radar, to mark a construction milestone. Earlier this year, following the termination of the agreement with the original owner, MSC Cruises signed a contract to take over the 140,000-ton cruise ship. Renamed MSC Preziosa, she will be the 13th addition to the MSC Cruises’ fleet, as well as the fourth ship in the series of Fantasia class ships.
