Penguin Delivers Crewboat

Delivered in October 2012, Penguin’s Flex-38S series crew boat, the MV Abba is fast and versatile. With capacity for up to 90 workers in reclining seats the boat also has an 80-square-meter open deck with a 55-ton capacity. The deck is strengthened for up to two MT per square meter. At 38 x7.6 m(124.7 x 25-feet) with a molded depth of 3.65 m (aprox. 12 feet) this is a big boat built to Penguin Shipyard International Pte Ltd’s proprietary design.

Jensen Maritime Consultants hired its third naval architect, Jianjun Qi, in the company’s new office in the New Orleans business district, reporting to Jensen General Manager Sergio Fifi. Qi brings to Jensen a decade of naval architecture, marine engineering and shipyard expertise. Before joining Jensen he worked as a naval architect at Incat Crowther, of Morgan City, La., a diversified naval architecture group, and served as a senior naval architect for Derecktor Shipyard in Bridgeford, Conn.

With the christening of the new pilot station vessel Polaris Alphatron Marine of Rotterdam has completed the design, installation and commissioning of one of the most comprehensive deliveries since its founding in 1991. In close cooperation with Fysergo, a Dutch company specialised in ergonomic workspace design, an Alphabridge wheelhouse concept was designed in order to comply with the severe demands of the Dutch pilots association in regards to sitting and standing vessel operations.

Huntington Ingalls Industries (NYSE: HII) christened the 10th Virginia-class submarine, Minnesota (SSN 783), at the company's Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) division. The ship's sponsor, Ellen Roughead, performed the traditional honor of breaking a bottle of American sparkling wine across the submarine's hull. Roughead, a Minnesota native, is the wife of former Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Gary Roughead. "Minnesota is the sum of all her parts," Mrs. Roughead said.
