China Shipyard Delays Delivery, Contract Cancelled
Due to continuous delays in the construction and delivery of two Kamsarmax bulkers, Ultrabulk cancels. The bulkships were originally to be built at Zhoushan Jinhaiwan Shipyard Co. Ltd., China, but the yard failed to finish the construction within agreed contractual delivery terms. The contracts were originally entered into and announced in 2010 (Company announcement # 25/2010) for long term charter of both vessels up to 12 years of duration.

New Offshore Oil & Gas Leak Detection Technology
Sonardyne Asia Pte Ltd. to launch ALDS (Automatic Leak Detection Sonar} at upcoming OSEA Singapore expo. ALDS has been designed to continuously and automatically detect and localise oil and gas leaks below 1 barrel per day in excess of 500 metres whilst eliminating transient acoustic targets that could trigger false alarms. Sonardyne’s ALDS is designed to continuously monitor one billion cubic feet of water for leaks around subsea oil and gas assets.
Havyard Group Buys Out MMC
Norway's Havyard Group AS buys 70 % of the shares in MMC, provider of products & services to the fishing & offshore vessel sectors. MMC has 120 employees and the company’s main office is at Mjølstadneset in Fosnavåg on the west coast of Norway. The company is also located in Stavanger, Haugesund, Vigra and Tromsø, as well as having a branch office in Lima, Peru. MMC and Tendos joined forces in 2000 to deliver products to fishing and well boats as well as shore-based receiving plants.
NOAA Ship Speed Restrictions Flouted off US E. Coast
The National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) are increasing their vigilance to protect the seasonal whale calving grounds. Despite NOAA advertising the speed restrictions it seems vessels are continuing to flout the speed limitation. Vessels in these areas are continually seen to be breaking these speed restrictions, in particular in the Delaware Bay entrance area are therefore being fined by NOAA. Fines levied by NOAA amount to $5,750 per incident.

NSWC Carderock Receives Patent for Galfenol Discovery, Development
Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Carderock received a patent Nov. 13 for their discovery and development of a new smart material called Galfenol. Galfenol is a magnetostrictive smart material that can be used in sensors, actuators and structural supports. The material was co-discovered in 1999 by NSWC Carderock and the Department of Energy's Ames Laboratory and has been in development for the past 13 years in partnership with Etrema Products Inc.
