Great Lakes Iron Ore Trade Off 3.6 Percent
Iron ore shipments on the Great Lakes totaled 5.5 million tons in October, a decrease of 6 percent compared to September, and 3.6 percent below the level of a year ago. Shipments were, however, marginally ahead of October’s 5-year average. Shipments from U.S. ports totaled 4.5 million tons, a decrease of 11.1 percent compared to a year ago. Included in that total were 81,000 tons shipped to Québec City for final delivery overseas.

Maritime Craft Services takes delivery of MCS Pampero
A Scottish maritime company has taken delivery of a second Twin Axe Design offshore wind farm support vessel. MCS Pampero, sister vessel to MCS Sirocco which joined the fleet in June, was handed over to Maritime Craft Services in Singapore and will go straight to work in NW Europe from mid-December. They join crew transfer vessels MCS Zephyr and MCS Maestro South Boat catamarans which were acquired last year.

ABB Azipods for Korea-built WIV Vessels
Eight Azipod C compact propulsion systems installed on 'Pacific Orca' and 'Pacific Osprey', the world’s largest wind farm installation vessels (WIV). The Azipod systems were delivered to the Samsung Shipyard in Korea from ABB’s new Azipod factory in Shanghai, China, established in 2011 to build the low power Azipod units. The new plant focuses on production of CO and CZ Azipod units, which range between 1.3 - 4.5 megawatts (MW) and 3.3 - 4.7 MW output, respectively.

China Shipyard Launches Ice-classed MP Vessel
Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding Co. Ltd, Shanghai, launch 'Thamesborg' for Royal Wagenborg. The Thamesborg (yard number 1595A) is the first vessel in a series of 21000 tons, 1A ice classed, multi purpose vessels, the Chinese yard is building for Royal Wagenborg. The vessels in this series are geared with four 60 ton cranes. After the launch of the new MP ship, the keel for yard number 1596A was put down for a similar vessel to be delivered when complete to the same owners later next year.

Tampa Bay, Florida, port receives cargo of Brazilian corn to offset draught-stricken US production shortfalls. The 620-foot-long M/V King Fraser docks at Port Manatee to discharge more than 52,000 tons of Brazilian-produced corn to be used for animal feed.
