Incat LNG Ferry a World First
Australian shipbuilder Incat Tasmania Pty Ltd launch world’s first high speed passenger Ro-Ro ship powered by LNG (Liquified Natural Gas). The vessel will be the first installation of LNG powered dual fuel engines in an Incat high speed ferry, and the first high speed craft built under the HSC code to be powered by Gas Turbines using LNG as the primary fuel and marine distillate for standby and ancillary use.

General Dynamics receives US$ 62-million US Navy contract for common ballistic missile compartment development. The U.S Navy has awarded General Dynamics Electric Boat a US$ 61.7-million contract modification for the continued development of the Common Missile Compartment for the United Kingdom's Successor ballistic-missile submarine and the U.S. Ohio replacement submarine. Electric Boat is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics.

Cruise ship 'Carnival Breeze' hoists 50' inflatable turkey aloft while Carnival Cruise Line donate 137,500 meals to 'Feeding South Florida'. The 1,250-pound nylon turkey — wearing a straw beach hat and colorful Hawaiian shirt – was hoisted aboard the ship in Miami in time for Thanksgiving Day holiday fesivities. The giant fowl will sit 14 stories above the waterline and gaze toward nearby McArthur Causeway until just before the ship makes its inaugural sailing from Miami on Thanksgiving Day.

Norway's Future Engineers Visit Ulstein Yard
College students from three different schools in the Ålesund region of Norway make familiarisation programme visit to Ulstein Group. The students are participants in the “Motivational course”, a cooperation between ULSTEIN, STX OSV, Rolls-Royce Marine and NCE Maritime, whose purpose is to motivate youths for engineering studies. The Motivational Course has been arranged for 13 years, and results show that about 50% of the participants later choose to become engineers.

London P&I Club Urges Maintenance of Hold Pipework
The London P&I Club has urged shipowners to ensure proper maintenance of cargo hold pipework in order to prevent wet damage to cargo, which has become a regular source of claims. In the latest issue of its StopLoss Bulletin, the club notes, “Leakage from pipework within holds continues to be a common cause of cargo wetting. Of particular concern are leaking top-side tank drain pipes and wells when located near or below the load water line, which can result in catastrophic hold flooding.

Star Cruises of Malaysia to Order Metso DNA System
The Star Cruises of Malaysia has chosen Metso to refurbish the automation system on its MS Star Pisces cruise ship that sails in the Far East. The vessel's new automation will increase reliability and customer comfort. After docking in Hong Kong in February, the vessel will continue its cruise program from March 2013 onwards. Metso will supply its state-of-the-art Metso DNA system to replace the present Damatic Classic automation system that it had supplied earlier.
Great Lakes Iron Ore Trade Off 3.6 Percent
Iron ore shipments on the Great Lakes totaled 5.5 million tons in October, a decrease of 6 percent compared to September, and 3.6 percent below the level of a year ago. Shipments were, however, marginally ahead of October’s 5-year average. Shipments from U.S. ports totaled 4.5 million tons, a decrease of 11.1 percent compared to a year ago. Included in that total were 81,000 tons shipped to Québec City for final delivery overseas.
Aker Solutions ASA: NPS Transaction Update
Aker Solutions has ended the process to acquire the Dubai-headquartered oil services company NPS Energy. Aker Solutions announced an agreement to buy the shares in NPS Energy on 21 May 2012.
