The American Club has issued an urgent alert to its members about the operation of oxy-acetylene equipment without flashback arrestors. This results from a recent casualty leading to a claim and through recent survey inspections, and the club’s managers describe the use of such equipment without fitment of flashback arrestors as “extremely dangerous.” Members are encouraged to check that all such equipment on their vessels is being kept in good condition and operated safely.

Maritime Technology Company Micanti has applied its patented non-toxic antifouling on the tug Willem-B Sr. Thorn-D is an adhesive foil with fibers that creates a textured surface. The Dynatite sealing system is successfully exposed to a series of hydrostatic shock tests. The shock pressure tests up to 15 bar, were carried out under survey of American Bureau of Shipping (ABS). The test started with shock pressure of 5 bar to be hold for 30 minutes, then releasing the pressure, followed by a shock pressure of 10 bar to be hold for 30 minutes, releasing the pressure and finally a shock pressure of 15 bar to be hold for 2 hours.

ClassNK (Chairman and President Noboru Ueda) has announced that the Portuguese Flag Adminstration (Instituto Portuário e dos Transportes Marítimos, I.P) and ClassNK entered into an agreement on 29 August 2012.
