Hamworthy Lands IG Contract at Hyundai
Hamworthy has won a contract from South Korea’s Hyundai Heavy Industries to supply its inert gas generator (IGG) package for the QUAD 204 FPSO project. The BP-operated FPSO is to be deployed some 110 miles to the west of the Shetland Isles in the North Atlantic as a replacement for the Schiehallion FPSO. Hamworthy will supply two sets of inert gas generator units, including two deck water seals, two control systems, two inert gas cleaners and two pressure vacuum breakers.
NY Canals to Temporarily Reopen
Open from Oswego to Waterford to Allow Stranded Boats to Reach Destinations. Sections of the Erie Canal and the Oswego Canal will temporarily reopen for a two-week period that begins Sunday, November 20, the New York State Canal Corporation announced. The eastern portion of the Erie Canal has been closed to navigation in the Mohawk Valley since major flooding in late August damaged several canal structures.
Resolve Refloats San Juan Dry Dock
RESOLVE Marine Group, Inc. successfully refloated the Perseverance dry dock in San Juan, Puerto Rico on October 27. The dry dock sank on September 29 during maintenance/refit operations. During the sinking, the dry dock’s internal pumping system became inoperable due to flooding of the dock’s control station. Also, internal damage sustained during the sinking event made several of the internal compartments common, degrading the stability of the dry dock.

Statoil & Partners Win Offshore Canada Bid
Statoil, Chevron Canada and Repsol E&P Canada have been named the successful bidders for exploration rights on two land parcels in the Flemish Pass Basin, offshore Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. This was the result of a land sale issued by the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board (C-NLOPB). The land parcels are located west of Statoil’s Mizzen discovery in the Flemish Pass Basin. Statoil will be the operator of both licences with a 50 % interest.
Tonnage Numbers Steady at U.S. Ports
U.S. ports continued to post positive tonnage numbers in October. The Seaway’s year-to-date total cargo shipments from March 22 to October 31 were 29 million metric tons, up 2 percent from the same period last year. “With just two months left in the 2011 navigation season, the Seaway is on track to meet its projected seven percent improvement over last year’s tonnage performance,” says Rebecca Spruill, Director of Trade Development for the Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation.
