Seafarer Heroism Honored at AOTOS Event
Five separate episodes of heroism and bravery on the high seas were recognized at the 42nd annual United Seamen's Service Admiral of the Ocean Sea (AOTOS) dinner. The AOTOS event itself honored James L. Henry, Chairman and President of the Transportation Institute; General Duncan J. McNabb, USAF, former Commander, U.S. Transportation Command; and Robert D. Somerville, Chairman of ABS (formerly the American Bureau of Shipping).
Hope Services Shipyard Delivers New Vessel
The M/V Orange was delivered to Higman Barge Lines, of Houston, Texas. The 78âx34â vessel left Hope Services Shipyardâs facility yesterday en route to Channelview, Texas, where it will pick up its first tow. The 78âx34â vessel is the fourth vessel in this class size that Hope Services has built for Higman. It marks the 77th vessel Hope Services has built in its twentyâfive year history.
Heavy Lift Hovercraft Ready for Charter
First such vessel built in Singapore. Hovertrans Solutions Pte. Ltd. (Hovertrans Solutions) announced today that it has successfully completed the construction of a modular heavy lift hovercraft, the first of its kind to be built in Singapore. The hovercraft, commonly referred to as a hoverbarge, is now ready for charter. It is ideal for industries such as oil and gas, heavy logistics industries as well as for civil engineering work in otherwise inaccessible or environmentally sensitive terrain.

Crowley Delivers Six New Turbine Blades to Costa Rican Wind Mill Farm. Crowley Maritime Corporation's liner services group recently shipped six oversized wind turbine blades from Port Everglades, Fla., to Limon, Costa Rica. The blades, which weighed two-and-a-half tons each and were 72 feet long, were lifted on board the Crowley ship Stadt Emden, using gantry cranes, slings and hooks, and transported to Costa Rica in time to meet the shipper's tight deadline.

Greencarrier Launches a New Direct Service
Together with its UK-based subsidiary Greencarrier PTS, Greencarrier is expanding the range of services it offers the Nordic market with a new direct service to Finland. The new link comes less than six months after Greencarrier acquired the Ipswich-based company PTS UK Ltd. SeaHold GEOSHIPS expanded its fleet of multi-purpose offshore vessels. The two new vessels âLoch Erisortâ and âLoch Roagâ brings the Aberdeen-based firmâs fleet up to three, while also signifying a $140m in additional financial commitment. Decommissioning Guidelines for North Sea Subsea
A new study which aims to inform UK government guidelines on environmentally responsible methods for decommissioning offshore pipeline bundles will be launched in Aberdeen this month. The study was secured with assistance from ITF, the technology facilitator for the global oil and gas industry, following membership support for the project. It will be led by project management and engineering consultancy PDi, with assistance from eight operating companies.
