New ferry for Port Townsend/Keystone
Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) Ferries Division announced on Dec. 1 that it is awarding a contract to Todd Pacific Shipyards to build one 64-auto ferry. Todd Shipyards submitted a $65.5m bid last month to build one 64-auto ferry. With the contract award, the new ferry is on an 18-month construction timeline. "Our economy and the people who depend upon this ferry route will greatly benefit from this contract. This award is expected to generate nearly 200 jobs," said Gov.

STX Europe Laid Cruise Vessel Keel
The keel of Allure of the Seas, the second in the series of two of the world's largest cruise ships was laid on Dec. 2 at the Turku yards of STX Europe. The keel laying ceremony marked the placement of the very first block of Allure of the Seas in the dry dock where the ship will begin to take shape. The event also included the coin laying ceremony, with representatives of the Owner, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.
Crowley Organizational Changes
Crowley announced changes in leadership and company organization involving its logistics, technical services and marine salvage business lines. Rinus Schepen, Crowley's senior vice president and general manager of logistics, has announced his retirement effective in June 2009. Schepen, a 20-year Crowley veteran, has been a significant contributor to the company's success and will continue to work for Crowley on special assignments in retirement.
Marcon Sells 11th Ocean Tank Barge This Year
The single skin, ocean tank barge, B. No. 105, was sold to West African buyers after sellers took delivery of their newbuilding double-hull replacement. The barge, re-named Heyden-Lamissa, was built by Gretna Machine & Iron Works, Gretna, LA in 1971. Principal dimensions are 340 ft by 70 ft by 27.5 ft hull depth. Cargo capacity is 12,889 tons or abt. 102,000 bbls in 10 coiled cargo tanks. Special features include a 12 million BTU self-heating system and crew accommodations for four persons.
