On June 20, a diverse coalition of 58 national and regional organizations representing a wide array of leading business, maritime and labor organizations signed on to a letter to Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee Chairman John Rockefeller (D-W.Va.) and Ranking Member John Thune (R-SD) urging that the committee mark up and approve S. 2094, a bill that would establish a uniform, science-based national framework for the regulation of ballast water and other vessel discharges.

His Majesty the King has awarded the honorary title of Koninklijk (Royal) to IHC Merwede. In a special ceremony today, the Mayor of Sliedrecht, Mr van Hemmen, presented this accolade to IHC Merwede’s CEO, Bram Roelse. In light of this honour, the company has decided to change its name to Royal IHC and will also include the royal crown in its revised corporate identity. The Royal title is an award granted to companies or organisations that meet certain conditions.

The South African company Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) has named its 750m3 grab hopper dredger, Italeni, during a special ceremony hosted by the shipbuilder IHC Merwede. The ceremony was performed on June 18 by TNPA’s Supply Chain General Manager, Ncumisa Nkanunu, in the shipyard of IHC Merwede’s partner, MTG Dolphin, in Varna, Bulgaria. CT Systems officially released what it is calling the world’s first all in one dredging computer, GeoDredge. GeoDredge houses all necessary components in a single housing. GeoDredge acts as a hardware platform for the Viking software. CT Systems said its goal is for any operator to be able to operate the system without any prior extensive training. With the advent of GeoDredge, it is no longer necessary to install separate components.
