Twin Dredgers for Canadian Oil Sands
Damen Shipyards Group has completed a construction contract comprising two electric-powered Cutter Suction Dredgers (CSD) for the Canadian oil sands industry. With both vessels built in Canada, the contract marks the close cooperation between Damen and Aecon, Canada’s largest publicly traded infrastructure development and construction company. Damen TSHD Launched at Krasnoye Sormove Shipyard
A Damen Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger (TSHD) 1000 was launched at the Krasnoye Sormovo Shipyard on January 29. The TSHD, named Sommers, is the lead vessel of a series of three TSHDs 1000 being built for Rosmorport. The TSHDs are scheduled for delivery this year, the contract between Rosmorport and Krasnoye Sormovo Shipyard having been signed in April 2014. Keel laying of the Sommers was held in November 2014. The other two dredgers are to be named Kronshlot and Kadosh respectively.

Damen Reports Dredger Success
2015 was very successful for Damen’s Cutter Suction Dredger (CSD) range, the builder said. Throughout the year, 12 CSDs were sold and delivered to clients around the world. Most of the deliveries were stock built vessels, a number of which were being built on speculation when an order was placed for them prior to completion. A feature of standardized Damen vessels is that, though built in series, they can be customized with standard options to meet individual client requirements.

Mud Cat Dredges Operating in Iraq
Multiple amphibious, multifunction dredges from Mud Cat are operating in Iraq to clean various dams and barrages that are positioned along the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers. Iraq’s Ministry of Water Resources (MWR) purchased the MFDs to remove accumulated silt, sand and vegetation at each dam’s basin. By performing regular dam maintenance, Iraq’s MWR can maintain the designed water levels at the dams to prevent structural components from being compromised.

Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger Drydocked at Kooiman
The 6,000-cubic-meter trailing suction hopper dredger Reimerswaal was moored for regular maintenance at the end of December 2015, alongside the jetty of Scheepswerf Gebr. Kooiman BV in Zwijndrecht. The Reimerswaal, having an overall length over of 130.25 meters and a (molded) width of 22 meters, was built in 2012 by Kooiman for Reimerswaal Dredging / Den Herder. Among others, Kooiman carried out maintenance works on the dredge- and dry unloading installations.
