Pirates Active in New Year Attacks on Shipping
Robbers boarded an anchored chemical tanker, stole shipās properties and escaped unnoticed. Incident reported to Port Authorities. Three robbers armed with a gun boarded a bulk carrier carrying out loading operations at anchor. They took hostage the duty A/B on routine rounds, tied him up and stole his personal effects. The robbers then broke into the forecastle store, stole ship's property and escaped. The A/B managed to untie himself and reported the incident to the duty officer.

Vard to Build Harkland Offshore DSC Vessel
Vard Holdings says it has secured a contract with a new customer, Harkand Group (Harkand), for the design and construction of a Diving Support and Construction (DSC) Vessel. The value of the contract exceeds NOK 1 billion. The vessel is scheduled for delivery from Vard Søviknes in Norway in 2Q 2016. and the hull is to be delivered from Vard Tulcea in Romania. The contract includes an option for a second similar DSC vessel.

Marseilles Fos Renews UNCTAD Training Agreement
The Marseilles Fos port authority has signed a five-year renewal of its agreement with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) to provide management training for ports in French-speaking Africa. The collaboration dates from 1996 and runs within UNCTADās Train for Trade program. Under the scheme, every two years the leading French port hosts a training visit attended by some 20 directors and senior managers from African ports.

Floating Production Systems: Market Update
Currently, 319 oil/gas floating production units are now in service, on order or being remarketed for reuse. FPSOs account for 66% of the existing systems, 73% of systems on order. Another 25 floating LNG processing systems are in service or on order. Liquefaction floaters account for 16%, regasification floaters 84%. No liquefaction units are yet in service ā all 4 are on order. In addition, 102 floating storage units are in service, on order or available.
