SCHOTTEL Strengthens Presence in Turkey
As of January 2019, the SCHOTTEL targeted expansion of the international network of subsidiaries develops further with the foundation of SCHOTTEL Turkey. SCHOTTEL is active in Turkey and has a larger customer base there since the 1970s. With the large number of vessels build in Turkey, SCHOTTEL sees the need to establish this new subsidiary.Mustafa Muslum has been appointed Managing Director for SCHOTTEL Turkey and will head the new subsidiary.
SCHOTTEL Strengthens Presence in Nordic Region
As of November 2018, SCHOTTEL Norway AS and Frydenbø SCHOTTEL Nordic AS have been merged under SCHOTTEL Nordic AS. The German propulsion company is now able to provide both newbuilding advise and after sales services in the Nordic region. The company's headquarters for service products will continue to be located in Gardermoen, with workshop facilities for the overhaul of thrusters as well as warehousing.
SCHOTTEL: Control Upgrade Extends Lifecycle on Harbor Tug
Schottel GmbH has carried out a control upgrade on a seagoing and harbor tug equipped with azimuth thrusters from another manufacturer. Instead of replacing the entire propulsion system (including mechanics and hydraulics), only the controls were swapped out. In order to comply with the latest class requirements, the German vessel owner was forced to modernize the “WULF 9”, a 30-year-old ASD tugboat.
Fully-electric Schottel Propelled Vessels to Operate in Canada
SCHOTTEL has signed a contract with Damen Shipyards to equip the first fully-electric vessels to operate in Canada.The new Amherst Island and Wolfe Island ferries will be propelled by four SCHOTTEL Twin Propellers STP 260 FP, each with an input power of up to 550 kW. The main propulsion is provided by batteries with a diesel engine as backup to ensure mobility. The propulsion concept implies a power intake increase up to 650 kW due to an enhanced draught provided by the batteries.
