ClassNK Unveils Longitudinal Strength Assessments Software
Classification society ClassNK released a new longitudinal strength assessments software “PrimeShip-HULL(Rules)/PartC15” as part of its prescriptive calculation suite “PrimeShip-HULL(Rules)”. For ensuring further safety and streamlining structural design of ships, ClassNK issued amendments for Chapter 15, Part C of its Rules for the Survey and Construction of Steel Ships relevant to the longitudinal strength in June 2017.
Norsafe Secures $23 mln in Contracts
Norsafe reported that it has secured more than 200 million NOK ($23.6 million) in LSA contracts that have been put out to tender so far this year. In addition to the recently announced contract with Kværner for delivery of three of Norsafe’s largest freefall lifeboats with davit systems to the Njord A platform, Norsafe has won several other significant contracts, both for new builds and upgrade projects.

Matsuyama Welcomes First Panamax Coal Carrier
Japan’s port of Matsuyama welcomed NYK-operated M/V Nord Neptune, the first panamax coal carrier to visit the port, on June 10, 2017. The Ehime prefectural government and the Shikoku Regional Development Bureau of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism recently completed an international logistics terminal project to reconstruct the port by deepening the berth to 13 meters. To help the berth accept large vessels, NYK provided technical support through Sumiseki Trading Co.

World's Largest Hybrid Ferry gets Rolls-Royce Power
Rolls-Royce announced that it received an order for four B33:45L diesel engines to power the world’s largest hybrid ferry being built for the Norwegian cruise and transport company Color Line. The ferry, designed by Fosen and to be built at Ulstein Verft in Norway, is due for completion by the summer of 2019 and is scheduled to operate on the crossing between Sandefjord in Norway and Strømstad in Sweden. Missing US Navy Sailor Found Alive
A U.S. Navy sailor feared to have fallen overboard has been found alive aboard USS Shiloh (CG 67) a week after he went missing. Gas Turbine Systems Technician (Mechanical) 3rd Class Peter Mims was reported missing June 8 and was presumed to have fallen overboard in the Philippine Sea, triggering a search involving U.S. Navy, Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force and Japan Coast Guard assets that lasted more than 50 hours and covered some 5,500 square miles.
Havyard Bags Canadian Trawler Order
Havyard Ship Technology said it has signed a letter of intent with the Canadian shipping company Baffin Fisheries for the design and construction of an arctic stern trawler. The vessel, a Havyard 554, is designed by Havyard Design & Solutions in close cooperation with the customer, and is 17 meters wide and 74.5 meters long. The parties intend to enter into an effective contract within August 2017, with a scheduled delivery date for the vessel in April 2019.
