US Coast Guard Hosts Subchapter M Forum
Marine Safety Unit Chicago and the U.S. Coast Guard Towing Vessel National Center of Expertise hosted an informational outreach forum Wednesday with towing vessel operators to explain the implementation of the new regulations for the inspection of towing vessels, Subchapter M. The meeting was held at the offices of Illinois Marine Towing in Lemont Wednesday morning with more than 80 industry representatives from the Great Lakes and the Mississippi River Basin attending.

US Navy Awards Repair Work to BAE Systems
BAE Systems today received a $36.7 million contract from the U.S. Navy for the repair and maintenance of the amphibious transport dock ship USS New Orleans (LPD 18). The New Orleans will be the first ship to be repaired in the company’s new drydock in San Diego. The contract includes options that, if exercised, would bring the cumulative value to $51.5 million. Rolls-Royce has signed a contract with Afai Southern Shipyard (Panyu Guangzhou) Ltd. to provide power and propulsion for a third Blue Sea Jet, fast ferry for the Zhuhai High-Speed Passenger Ferry Co., Ltd. The catamaran ferry, which will carry 288 passengers between Zhuhai and Hong Kong, will be driven by twin MTU 16V 4000M70 engines powering Rolls-Royce Kamewa S71-4 waterjets.
