WSDOT Christens New Ferry Chimacum
The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) christened Chimacum, the third Olympic Class vessel to join the Washington State Ferries (WSF) fleet. Hy-Line Cruises, a division of Hyannis Harbor Tours, Inc., Hyannis, Mass., has taken delivery of Grey Lady IV, a new 493-passenger, high-speed catamaran from Gladding-Hearn Shipbuilding, the Duclos Corporation. The fourth Incat-Crowther fast ferry built by the Mass.-based shipyard for the Cape Cod passenger ferry company is larger and more stylish in design than previous vessels. MAN Expands Low-Speed Portfolio
MAN Diesel & Turbo has added three new engines to its large-bore engine program. The engines are weight-optimized, compared to their MK 9 counterparts, and form the new design platform for a new Mk 10 engine portfolio. MAN's G-Type Engine Notches 1,500 Orders
Just six years after its introduction, MAN Diesel & Turbo has confirmed an order for the 1,500th G-type engine. Greek ship operator, Almi Tankers, will take delivery of the ultra-long-stroke 7G80ME-C9 type as prime movers for the two 317,000-dwt VLCC to be built by HHI (Hyundai Heavy Industries Group) in Korea. Coincidentally, Almi Tankers also placed the order for the very first Gtype engine. The crude carriers are due for delivery in, respectively, February and April, 2018.
Wärtsilä Says It’s Ready for the BWM Convention
The International Maritime Organization's (IMO) International Convention for the Control and Management of ships' ballast water and sediments (BWM Convention) has been ratified and will enter into force on September 8, 2017. The treaty will ultimately require vessels in excess of 400 GRT to have a type approved BWMS installed and operating in accordance with the convention guidelines, and which conforms to the Regulation D2 discharge performance standard.
