Eastern Delivers MPFSV to Harvey Gulf
Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. has delivered the M/V Harvey Stone on August 29, 2016 for Harvey Gulf International Marine, LLC of New Orleans. The Harvey Stone, Eastern Hull 234, is a Rampage 6400 Multi-Purpose Field Support Vessel (MPFSV), designed by Robert Allan, LTD (RAL) of Vancouver, B.C. Eastern is also completing the Harvey Sub-Sea and the Harvey Blue-Sea, two MPSVs under construction at Eastern, from a design provided by VARD Marine.
Georgia to Shut Port Operations ahead of Storm
As a result of the severe weather, the Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) said it will close its facilities in both Savannah and Brunswick Friday, September 2 ahead of Tropical Storm Hermine. Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal has declared a state of emergency for 56 counties, including Glynn and Chatham counties, where Georgia's deepwater ports are located. The U.S. Coast Guard will restrict vessel arrival and departure starting at 10 p.m. tonight.

The gas carrier Coral Medusa, owned and operated by the Anthony Veder Group, has completed her intermediate survey at Damen Shiprepair Harlingen. The intermediate survey was scheduled and executed while the ship was under gas vapors from her last cargo. Damen Shiprepair & Conversion was able to offer three locations, Flushing, Schiedam and Harlingen, that are certified to repair gas tankers which are not gas-free. Harlingen had immediate availability so the Coral Medusa docked on July 19.

With Hanjin Shipping on the verge of bankruptcy, state run Korea Development Bank stated the shipper’s debt stood at more than $5 billion at the end of June. However, Hanjin owns 63 vessels, worth today $1.7 billion, including live and newbuilding contracts, as shown by VesselsValue. Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) who is rumored to be interested in taking over Hanjin Shipping, owns 36 vessels worth $965.5 million.
