The U.S. Coast Guard continues to monitor and respond to the motor vessel Roger Blough after the vessel ran aground May 27 on Gros Cap Reef in Whitefish Bay in Lake Superior. A new global challenge and a compliance monitoring market are emerging, due to tightening environmental regulations. Boaty McBoatface to Set Sail – Virtually
Though the U.K. Natural Environment Research Council decided not to name its state-of-the-art polar research ship Boaty McBoatface (instead opting to name the ship David Attenborough, and calling its remotely operated undersea vehicle Boaty McBoatface), the name lives on. Another Boaty McBoatface will set sail virtually from Southampton today thanks to an initiative from international maritime charity Sailors’ Society and vessel tracking website MarineTraffic.
Investigators Set Mission to Recover El Faro’s VDR
The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said it is set to launch a mission to recover the voyage data recorder (VDR) of sunken cargo ship El Faro. The VDR, belonging to U.S. flagged El Faro which sank during Hurricane Joaquin last October, was located April 26 in about 15,000 feet of water near the Bahamas. The El Faro wreckage was positively identified on November 1, 2015, during the NTSB’s initial mission to locate the wreckage.

International Transport Intermediaries Club (ITIC) has launched a cyber liability extension to ITIC policies to protect its existing professional indemnity members against the growing threat posed by hackers. ITIC has always provided cover for damage arising from the loss of or damage to computer records in its members’ custody.
