On December 11, General Dynamics NASSCO completed bunkering of liquefied natural gas (LNG) for the Perla Del Caribe, the world’s second containership to be powered by LNG. Shippers’ Confidence Dips Slightly -Moore Stephens
Overall confidence levels in the shipping industry fell in the three months to November 2015, according to the latest Shipping Confidence Survey from international accountant and shipping adviser Moore Stephens. The average confidence level expressed by respondents in the markets in which they operate was 5.6 on a scale of 1 (low) to 10 (high). This compares to the 5.9 recorded in August 2015. The survey was launched in May 2008 with a confidence rating of 6.8.
US Navy’s Newest LCSs Feature GE Gas Turbines
The U.S. Navy has recently commissioned and launched two Littoral Combat Ships (LCS) of the Independence-variant, both of which are powered by two GE LM2500 marine gas turbines, GE Marine reports. The USS Jackson was commissioned on December 5 in a ceremony in Gulfport, Miss., following the launch of sister ship LCS USS Omaha in late November, also in Gulfport. Furthermore, according to shipbuilder Austal USA, the future USS Montgomery also is preparing for acceptance sea trials in early 2016.
Mammoet Spurs US Expansion
Currently undergoing growth in terms of qualified personnel and asset acquisition, Mammoet USA said it plans for 2016 a $100 million investment in miscellaneous transport and lifting equipment, the vast majority being crawler cranes between 100 ton and 600 ton capacity. According to Mammoet, the expansion will enable the company to widen its range of services and better serve its customers along the Gulf Coast.
Kleven Secures French Trawler Order
Norwegian-owned shipbuilding group Kleven has signed a contract with the French fishery company Compagnie Des Peches Saint-Malo S.A. & SAS Comptoir Des Peches D’Europe Du Nord – Euronor, for the construction of an 80-meter-long stern trawler. The vessel is to be delivered from Myklebust Verft in September 2017, and is of NVC 374 WP design from Rolls-Royce. Two vessels of the same design were ordered by DFFU in June this year.

US LNG Bunker Barge Nearing Launch Date
North America’s first LNG bunker barge is scheduled to be launched in February of 2016, Clean Marine Energy LLC (CME) announced following a U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) and Society of International Gas Tanker and Terminal Operators (SIGTTO) hosted tour at Conrad Shipyard in Orange, Texas.
