Crowley Selects Fuel Supplier for LNG Containerships
Crowley Puerto Rico Services, Inc. has selected Eagle LNG Partners as the liquefied natural gas (LNG)-supplier for the company’s new LNG-powered, Commitment Class ships, which will be delivered in 2017 for use in the U.S. mainland to Puerto Rico trade. To support Crowley’s LNG needs, Eagle LNG will build a natural gas liquefaction plant (LNG plant) offering a capacity of 200,000 gallons per day (87,000 gallons per day initially) in Jacksonville.

South Carolina Sees Box Volume Jump
November container traffic drove a seven percent increase in South Carolina Ports Authority (SCPA) fiscal year-to-date volumes, with 831,627 twenty foot equivalent units (TEUs) handled since the fiscal year began in July. SCPA moved 153,594 TEUs last month, an increase of 6.5 percent over 144,218 TEUs handled in November 2014. As measured in pier containers, or total boxes handled, fiscal year-to-date volumes were up 5.7 percent with 468,776 boxes moving across SCPA docks since July.
Nordsee One Wind Farm Construction Kicks Off
DEME Group’s offshore marine engineering company GeoSea announced the start of the construction works for the offshore wind farm Nordsee One in the German North Sea. The Nordsee One offshore wind farm (85 percent Northland Power – 15 percent RWE) is situated approximately 40 kilometers north of the island of Juist and consists of 54 wind turbines which will be installed in water depths ranging between 25 and 29 meters.

Canada, China Port Cities Reach Collaboration Pact
The Mayor of the Cape Breton Regional Municipality (CBRM) and the City of Dalian, Liaoning Province in the People’s Republic of China have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) laying the ground work for an official sister city relationship between the two regions and port cities. Like Sydney, Dalian is a port city. It boasts the largest ice free harbor in northern China and is one of the most modern in the world.
Van Oord’s New Dredger Named
A naming ceremony was held at Damen Dredging Equipment in Nijkerk on November 16 for the second of Van Oord’s Damen Cutter Suction Dredgers (CSD) 650, the Mangystau, due to be delivered in the first week of January. The ceremony was attended by members of the Van Oord and Damen families. Damen received the first order for a CSD650 from dredging and marine contractor Van Oord at the end of 2014; the Ural River.

Radio Holland Awarded Remote Monitoring Agreement
Radio Holland, part of the newly formed company RH Marine Group, has been awarded a Remote Monitoring Agreement from The China Navigation Company (CNCo). Under the new agreement, Radio Holland will install VDR Remote Interface on board three more CNCo vessels (Coral Chief, Highland Chief and New Guinea Chief). The company’s decision to place these three vessels under a Remote Monitoring Agreement follows a successful pilot scheme on its multipurpose vessel, the Papuan Chief.
New Chinese Regulations for SOx Emissions
China’s Ministry of Transport has published new regulations introducing sulphur (SOx) emission control requirements within three Ship Emission Control Areas (ECAs): Pearl River Delta (PRD), Chang Jiang Delta (CJD) and Bohai Rim (BR). These ECAs are not designated under MARPOL Annex VI. The geographical boundaries of the three ECAs are shown in the images at the end of this Class News. ‘Core ports’ have been designated within them.

RINA Group Delivers Ballast Water Management Guidance
International classification society RINA has completely revised and updated its guidance on the Ballast Water Convention and the procurement, installation, operation and certification of Ballast Water Treatment Systems. The guidance is now available to shipowners, shipyards and equipment manufacturers as a Technical Bulletin.
