Historic Vessel Laser Scanned for Hull Refit
New York’s Lake George Steamboat Company recently commissioned API Services to laser scan the hull the oldest boat in its fleet, the 107-year-old Mohican. The original Mohican, in service from 1894 to 1907, was a 93-foot wooden hull vessel. The ship was replaced in 1907 by a steel-hulled vessel christened the Mohican II in the summer of 1908, thus beginning the first of her 107 years of continuous service on Lake George.

GIB India Adds Bunker and Lubricant Trader
Global marine fuel and lubricant trading and brokering company Glander International Bunkering (GIB) has hired Ankita Batra as a trader for its India office. Batra joins (GIB) with a post graduate in the domain of Energy Trading from the University of Petroleum and Energy studies, Dehradun. Batra speaks Hindi and English and is familiar supplying in the ports of India, Singapore and Fujairah.
Cummins Darlington: 50 Years of Engine Production
UK-based Cummins Darlington is celebrating its 50th anniversary during 2015. Since opening, around 1.5 million engines have been built in the factory for customers worldwide, providing power for vessels as well as land vehicles. Work began in 1963 on the £8.5 million plant with engine production commencing in 1965, having more than 400 employees’ onsite. The production line assembled Cummins range of Small Vee V6 and V8 engines, named VAL and VALE.
Port of Hamburg Reports Cargo Downturn
Germany’s largest universal port reported the effects of weakened Chinese foreign trade plus the steep downturn in trade with Russia during the first nine months of the year. Totaling 104.6 million tons, seaborne cargo throughput in Hamburg was down 4.8 percent from last year, despite higher bulk cargo handling in the first three quarters of 34.3 million, up 8.7 percent. Meanwhile, container throughput in the first nine months totaled 6.7 million TEU, down by 9.2 percent.

Ship Operating Costs to Rise Over Next Two Years
The cost of operating cargo ships is forecast to rise over the next two years after falling in 2015, according to the latest Ship Operating Costs Annual Review and Forecast 2015/16 report published by global shipping consultancy Drewry. The average decline in ship operating costs across the sectors covered in the report in 2015 was one percent, but for ships that are big consumers of lube oils, the decline in overall costs was closer to two percent.
