USCG Transfers Cutter to Bangladesh Navy
The U.S. Coast Guard decommissioned and transferred the Cutter Rush to the Bangladesh Navy as the BNS Somudra Avijan during an official signing ceremony on Coast Guard Island in Alameda Wednesday afternoon. A 20-member team from the Bangladesh Navy, led by prospective commanding officer Capt. Mohammad Waseem Maqsood, arrived in Alameda in March to begin preparations to receive the Rush. Seventy additional crewmembers of the Bangladesh Navy are scheduled to arrive May 20.

US Sen. Murkowski Plans Bill to Kill Oil Export Ban
U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski said on Thursday she will unveil a bill next week to reverse the U.S. oil export ban in an effort to build support for killing the 1970s-era restriction that drillers say threatens to choke the domestic energy boom. Murkowski, the Republican chairwoman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, said she will unveil the bill on Tuesday, although it was uncertain when the measure would get a vote in her committee.

Sixth Season of Hudson River Dredging Begins
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Regional Administrator Judith A. Enck announced the start of the sixth, and final, season of dredging of PCB-contaminated sediments from the bottom of the Hudson River. The historic dredging project – one of the largest and most complex cleanups in Superfund history – began in 2009. The EPA is overseeing the dredging project that is being conducted by General Electric Company (GE) under the terms of a 2006 legal agreement.
US Energy Dept OKs Cove Point LNG Export
The U.S. Energy Department said Thursday it has given the final approval for Dominion Resources to export liquefied natural gas (LNG) from its Cove Point, Maryland plant. The Cove Point plant is investing $3.8 billion in new infrastructure to ship up to 0.77 billion cubic feet of LNG starting late in 2017 to countries with which the United States does not have free trade agreements.
